Leading lady of Bollywood Katrina Kaif has retained her hold on the no.1 spot in the annual poll conducted by the leading British Asian newspaper “Eastern Eye” to find out the 50 Sexiest Asian Women of the Year 2009. In a closely fought race to the top, Katrina edged out a couple of competitors from Bollywood to retain her crown.  The judges for the contest included the editor of the “Asian Woman Magazine” Brianna Ragel and former editor of FHM India, Farhad Dadybujor.

50. Hard Kaur – Now for all my admiration for this UK based rapper, I could not have fathomed in my wildest dreams that people think of her as one of the sexier women around! Well my feelings don’t matter as you see – Hard Kaur is on no. 50 in the list of the Sexiest Asian Women in the World. That means she is sexier than over a billion Asian Women. Incredible!

49. Shruti Haasan – Kamal Haasan and Sarika’s singer-actor daughter Shruti Haasan has not

had much professional success yet in either of her two pursuits. Her debut Bollywood movie Luck failed to garner either box office success or critical acclaim. Yet that has not deterred her fans from voting for her in the list of the sexiest Asian women.

47. Esha Deol – Bollywood actress and daughter of yesteryear’s movie star Hema Malini, Esha Deol was at no.21 in the last year’s poll of the 50 Sexiest Asian Women. Lack of new releases means that Esha Deol has faded from public memory.

46. Dilshad Vadsaria – The American TV Star of mixed descent (Pakistani, Indian and Portuguese) has impressed many with her role as Rebecca on the ABC television programme Greek.

45. Anoushka Shankar – Sitar player and grammy award winner daughter of Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shanker too makes it to the list of the 50 Sexiest Asian Women.

44. Sania Mirza – Indian tennis player from Hyderabad, Sania Mirza. We were expecting her to be somewhere in the top 20 but she hasn’t made much impact on the tennis circuit in the previous year and Indians have been known to not find women as sexy once she announces that she is getting married.

43. Simone Bienne – Simone is a broadcaster, columnist, voice artist and sex and relationship therapist. Daughter of an Indian father, sexy Simone has made it to no.45 in the list of the 50 Sexiest Asian Women.

42. Miss Pooja – Her real name is Gurinder Kainth Kaur but this Punjabi Bhangra singer is better known by her stage name Miss Pooja. Miss Pooja has made it to the list of the 50 Sexiest Asian Women for the first time.

41. Sophie Choudhry – She came into the limelight as a VJ on MTV. Sexy Sophie has been the darling of the voters for years though she has slipped from her previous ranking in the list.

40. Tina Sugandh – Tina Sugandh is the most versatile talent on this list of the 50 Sexiest Asian Women. She is an Indian born American writer, singer, tabla player, dancer, guitarist, and actress.

39. Preity Zinta – This bubbly beauty of Bollywood has starred in many successful Bollywood hits.

38. Ayesha Takia – A talented Bollywood actress, though we weren’t sure her figure makes her a contender for a list of sexy women.

37. Minnisha Lamba – Yet another Bollywood actress who hasn’t done much of note yet.

36. Rakhi Sawant – One of the most obnoxious celebrities in the world, we completely fail to understand why the world likes her.

35. Gulzaeb Beg Ali – British model and TV anchor of Pakistani origin

34. Norah Jones – Pandit Ravi Shankar’s other daughter to be on the list. That is a rare feat for the father!

33. Rani Mukherjee – One of the bigger stars of Bollywood, she has climbed up a few places after she got a makeover last year.

32. Natasha Khan – Of Pakistani origin, Natasha is a UK based alternative rock music star.

31. Sherlyn Chopra – Now she has got the oomph, if not the talent, to be here on this list. We expect her to remain on this list for a few more years for sure.

30. Hadiqa Kiani – Pakistani pop singer. She has climbed up 5 spots from her no.35 rank last year.

29. Celina Jaitley – Celina’s selection is ample proof for the Bollywood obsession of the voters.

28. Tasmin Lucia Khan – British journalist – Tasmin is a BBC news reader; she is of Bangladeshi ethnicity.

27. Malaika Arora Khan – A regular on the list, she has fallen steeply nineteen ranks down. Malaaika became famous for her item songs in Bollywood movies.

26. Sonam Kapoor – Daughter of Anil Kapoor, star of Academy Award winner Slumdog Millionaire, Sonam was noticed in her role as the lead actress in the Hindi movie “Dilli 6”.
